God. Life. Spirituality.
I think of faith as a kind of whistling in the dark because, in much the same way, it helps to give us courage and to hold the shadows at bay.

The Buechner quotation reminds me of advice I was given in junior high, when I had to walk a new path to school, passing a dog that terrified me in the process.
“Dogs sense fear”, my dad told me. “Pretend you’re not afraid, and you’ll fool the dog.”
Whether I fooled the dog I don’t know. But I fooled myself, and in a few months I wasn’t afraid any longer!

A delightful story, Linda. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Faith is indeed a powerful resource that we could draw on when faced with challenges, whether big or small, in life.
Although I’ve always struggled with my faith (because probably I’m a very rational person), I have always found it a source of strength and comfort.
Also, my wife’s faith (which is much stronger than mine) has also helped me go through life, especially during my darkest moments.
