The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us the less taste we shall have for the destruction of our race.

  1. The most poignant truth here is that so many people seem to have a very great taste for the destruction of their personal worlds – it’s no wonder our world as a whole is at risk.

On the other hand, who’s to say which generous, kind or compassionate gesture might be the one that keeps the balance from shifting? We do what we can….

  2. As I reflect on the present state of affairs in our society, I remember these words of Charles Dickens:

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way…”

We live in an era of unprecedented wealth (this is at least true for some individuals and groups), of exponential increase of knowledge, of great advances in technology Yet, to say that our society is without its challenges is to be naive. And one of the greatest challenges our society has to confront is the widespread conflict and violence not only between individuals, but even between nations.

Although it is true that most of these conflicts has its roots in the heart of individual, the issues involved are quite complex. Yes, we can only hope for the best, and do what we can. I believe, that no matter how small, any act of compassion, kindness or generosity will go a long way…
