  1. And a Happy Birthday from Texas! What a beautiful photo of your family. It’s such fun to look at the three little girls – there appear to be three very distinct personalities there!

  2. Thank you, Linda!

This family photo is such a treasure, probably taken in the late 40s when my Mom and my siblings were just little kids.

There are indeed three distinct personalities here. My mom (the one at the extreme left with the ribbon) is the bubbly kid but who grew up to be the serious one. It’s probably because she had to grow up fast because she married at such an early age (16 years old!). Tita Sonie (the one at the middle), who seems to be a little bit cranky when the photo was taken, grew up to be the one with a happy disposition. Tita Pilaring (at the far right and the eldest in the family) with the half smile grew up to be a gentle soul. In life she had far more challenges than the others, but I admire her for her calmness and gentleness even when she’s under pressure. I wonder where he gets her inner strength.

Last but not the least, I miss my grandmother, who passed away many years ago. I’d like to believe that I was his favorite grandson. Before she passed away, she had alzheimer’s disease. Her memory was gone and she couldn’t even recognize her own children. But whenever she saw me, she recognized me and would say my name. It’s probably because I was the eldest grandson, and grew up under her care. (She really spoiled me :-)).
