What We Stay Alive For

Dead Poets Society

We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.

  1. This was such a wonderful film. It’s been years since I’ve seen it. Maybe it’s time for another viewing. That’s a wonderful quotation, too. Very much appropriate for Valentine’s Day, although I suspect it won’t show up on many cards.

  2. I agree, Linda. Love the movie, too! Watched it many times. Very inspiring. Wish that I had a teacher like John Keating (the character played by Robin Williams). Such love for life and literature he had! Wonderful movie, indeed.
