The Most Powerful Religion

The love of money is the root of all evil. — I Timothy 6:10

If I look at the world today it seems to me that the most powerful religion of all– much more powerful than Christianity, Judaism, Islam and so on– is the people who worship money. That is really [the] most powerful religion. And the banks are bigger than the cathedrals, the headquarters of the multinational companies are bigger than the mosques or the synagogues. Every hour on the hour we have business news– every hour– it’s a sort of hymn to capitalism.

  2. So very true Matt. I’ve said it before. ‘There are two ways to be rich, – To have more, or to want less’………

  3. It’s the limitless greed behind money and the fiendish power control associated with it.

  4. Unfortunately you’re right, zzzisle. We live in the most materialistic society in our recorded history. The irony is inspite of the material wealth that people have acquired they’re not happy.

  5. Fortunately, Senan, a long time ago I’ve chosen to live with less. And I’m glad I’ve made that decision. Besides, true wealth can’t be measured by the quantity of our material things…

  6. I agree, noveilst. It’s the unbridled greed of big corporations allied with corrupt governments that’s causing a lot of problems in our society. For one thing, they’ve abused our environment to the extent that our planet is on the road to self-destruction. An alarming development, but I hope that we make the effort to reverse our slide to disaster, before it’s too late. Otherwise, we may not have a planet to live with in the next generations.

  7. You’re welcome; wonderfully said. We live in hope, but our society is crumbling, especially with the added inundation of chemtrails being sprayed above our heads in practically every country. ‘Power corrupts and absolute power, corrupts absolutely.’ I too hope it’s not too late.

  8. Amen. We seem to feed on discontent. The allure of money and material things, for the vast majority of people in our culture, is far more powerful than the allure of God.

  9. So true, Bill. Our society has lost sight of what’s valuable. Most people are lost, preferring the glitter of materialism and consumerism. Unfortunately, the things that we see are fleeting and ephemeral, without substance and having no power to make us happy. Which reminds me of the words of Jesus:

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
