Easter Blessing

The blessing of the morning light to you,
may it find you even in your invisible appearances,
may you be seen to have risen
from some other place we intuit and know
in the darkness and that carries all we need.
May you see what is hidden in you
as a place of hospitality and shadowed shelter,
may that hidden darkness be your gift to give,
may you hold the shadow to the light
and the silence of that place to the word of the light,
may you join all of your previous disappearances
with this new appearance, this new morning,
this being seen again, new and newly alive.

  1. What a lovely poem. It has the feel of an Irish blessing, and is a perfect pairing for the photograph.

I hope your day was a good one, and that the continuation of the Easter season brings even more blessings!

  2. Linda, just recently discovered David Whyte on social media, and he’s fast becoming one of my favorite poets. His posts, usually poems, are always accompanied by black-and-white photos. (I find most black-and-white photos attractive).

You’re right, this has the feel of an Irish blessing. Reminds me of one of poems of the late John O’Donohue (an Irish poet) entitled Bennacht, which is the Irish Gaelic for “Blessing.”

I and Jojang had a quiet Easter celebration dinner, which both of us enjoyed. She cooked for us roasted chicken (one of favorite dishes), using the recipe of my grandmother.

Love the Easter season; Easter always bodes for me hope. Its promise is written in every leaf, every blade of grass in springtime. In the words of Martin Luther:

Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime.

May the presence of the Risen Christ shine upon us. May He bring us many blessings, and inspire new life in our hearts in many creative and joyful ways…
